Stomach Bug

The "Evil-Grinch Stomach Bug" is trying to steal our Christmas joy. We had 14 kids out today. Take extra precautions to guard yourselves from this joy stealing virus! We are praying for quick recoveries and protection for those who haven't been infected. . Love y'all!

FAIR

FAIR testing to postponed until after Christmas Break.

FAIR and 3rd Grade Play

- Our 3rd Grade Play is this Thursday. We will be having a day performance for the student body and a night performance for parents and family. Students need to wear jeans, a red shirt and a Santa hat AND/OR a white scarf for both day and night performances.
-We have FAIR testing this Friday!! :) Be here or be square! :)

Math & Science LIAs

Hello Parents!
I just recieved some great news that I need to share with you! Math and Science LIA dates have been moved to December 17th and 18th! I'm very excited to be able to test on normal school days, rather than early release days. It is extremely important that your child be here for those days, so please do your best to make sure they are here. Also, in preparation for the Math LIA, homework next week will be mostly review on skills from the 1st nine weeks. I just wanted to give you a heads-up about that. Please let me know if you have any questions.

3rd Grade Play

Our Third Grade Play, " A Yankee Doodle Christmas" is next Thursday, December 13th at 6:00. Please have students here by 5:30ish. I know we've sent things home that have said 5:45, but in order to better prepare and to help parents get seated, we are making this request. Students are to wear a red shirt, jeans, and a Santa hat OR white scarf. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call us!!

Our First FAIR day

We went to the lab to take FAIR on Tuesday and the website was down, so another day will be scheduled for us to take it. Keep an eye out for a new date. We will be testing next Friday, December 14th too. Thanks for being so flexible!!

LIA results and Upcoming FAIR testing

Greetings All!
     As you know, we have been taking Reading LIA this week. One wonderful thing about LIA is I get immediate results. I have to say, I am AMAZED!! Our scores were AWESOME!!!!! 92% of our class (both groups) made growth!! 81% made tremendous growth!! There is a pizza party on its way for those students who increased their score significantly. Parents, I will be in contact very soon to talk with you about these scores.
    Secondly, at Conference Night in October, I told you we would be taking FAIR again in January. However, I was mistaken. In the past we have taken our second round in January, this year we will be taking FAIR Round Two next Tuesday, December 4th and Friday, December 14th.

Hello All!!
Just wanted to let you know that I am going to be out next week, 10/15-10/19. My family has been taking this annual trip for 10 years. It's so very special to me and my family. Mrs. Nolan will be my substitute. She's AWESOME!! Ms. Washburn, our aide, will also be assisting. Keep in mind, 10/15-10/19 is the last week for grades, so stay focused and attentive. (Take AR tests.) I will be inputting final 9 weeks grades when I get back. I love you ALL!!

FCAT Explorer

FCAT Explorer passwords were taped in the front of each child's planner. Simply go to fcatexplorer.com to sign in. Once signed in, visit 3rd Grade Galactic Library. This will prep us for that test in April!! :) Have a great weekend!! Look for the secret word!

Coach Owens Making A PB&J

Coach Owens came in today to follow two chosen Pb&J sequences. I told you we needed to be specific!! She was very confused at first, but the Pilots, Rangers and Mrs. Markham straightened her out!

PB&J Sequencing

We are working on sequencing events. We got a little practice in by reading recipe/directions of how to make a PB &J. Coach Owens will be coming tomorrow to follow two of our written recipes/directions. Hopefully we kept them simple.....she doesn't cook!!

Hello ALL!
I am so glad to be back in hot, humid FLORIDA! Texas was nice, but I missed my home. If you have any questions or concerns you may now contact me by phone or email. Just a heads up about a few things:
- We will be retesting for failed tests/CIM checks soon. We will be doing this along and along. All retests will be completed by the end of the 9 weeks. No worries. :)
- If you notice that there is a missing assignment or an asterisk that means I have not yet posted a grade. This could be for two reasons: the assignment is not yet complete or a student was absent. If I am missing a grade, I will post it as MISSING. If a child doesn't turn in work, it will be counted as a zero (0).
- I have noticed that a lot of students are struggling on our weekly vocabulary tests. Please make sure that you are studying these words at home too.
- Reading/writing logs- I send home what I expect to be in the weekly log attached to the log itself. Please make sure to follow it.
- AR!! AR!!! AR!!!! We need to be reading books and testing. It will be part of the reading grade. However, I would mainly like to see students reading so they can reap the rich rewards of using their imaginations. (Plus you can earn prizes!!!!)
- I am also seeing students rushing through assignments! Remember there is NO prize for being first! Only prizes for first rate work!!!! (As and Bs)

Friday, 9/7 and Monday, 9/10-Mrs. Cribbs

This coming Friday, 9/7 and Monday, 9/10 I will be out of town. You will be in good hands with Ms. Ruiz and the sub. Please direct any phone calls, emails and notes to Ms. Ruiz during my absence. LIA Schedule

Our Reading LIA was supposed to be this past week, however it has been rescheduled to Tuesday, 9/4 and Wednesday, 9/5. Students will be taking this assessment during our Reading Block.

FAIR Correction

We will be taking FAIR this coming Friday, August 31, not Monday like the newsletter listed. Just a reminder we will also be taking LIA Reading this Wednesday, August 29 and Thursday, August 30. All testing will occur during the Reading Block.

Please help us with each of the following:
- All paperwork needs to be returned ASAP.
- Spelling Calendars and Reading/Writing Logs are signed and returned DAILY for check.
-Planners need to be signed DAILY.
- Newsletters will come home again on Friday. PLEASE sign and return for check on Monday. The newsletter will be returned to each student on Monday.....PROMISE:) (Sorry the mix ups this week)
- Students will be reminded to bring home AR books DAILY. (Mrs. Cribbs' homeroom will go to the library next week.) Students are to bring books back every day for in class use.

Code of Conduct Books/First Day

We sent home the pink Code of Conduct books today. In it you will find a photo permission form. Please sign and return that form ASAP. You can just rip it out and keep the rest!

What a wonderful first day we had!! We brushed up on rules and procedures today and will continue to do so throughout the week. Tomorrow we start working with our different focus skills for this nine weeks! Yay!! It's going to be so much fun learning with you this year!! We love you.....already!!!

Class Supplies

It was brought to my attention that an 1 inch binder was not on the Third Grade Supply List. We will need each to student to purchase one of these, for keeping their daily planner and homework organized. Thanks so much!

Welcome Letter Correction

In the all excitement of getting our Welcome Letters out, we missed a typo. The Open House/Meet the Teacher Event is August 16, 2012 @ 5:30. You will be meeting in the Multipurpose Room first, for general information and then you will come to our classrooms after. We will most likely be meeting in my room for the presentation. We can't wait to meet you!

Summer Thoughts

Ms. Ruiz and I are getting so excited about this school year. Our classrooms are looking great! We just need students to fill those desks! :) Summer will be over soon enough! I hope you all are enjoying your last few weeks! We know we are. We can't wait to meet you! I will post some pictures of our classrooms soon, so you can get a sneak peek.
